Free English speaking test
What's your Luwy Score?
Speak for 60 seconds about a topic you haven't seen before. You'll get a score out of 100, a breakdown, and the one thing holding your speaking back. No sign-up, no card.
Your microphone starts only when the speaking phase begins, and stops the moment it ends.
How the test works
A topic, with no warning
You get a prompt you haven't seen, and about fifteen seconds to gather a thought. That is the same pressure as an interview or an oral exam.
Sixty seconds of speech
You speak. Your words are transcribed live in your browser. No recording is uploaded or kept.
A score and one thing to fix
Fluency, grammar, vocabulary and structure, plus the single change that would move your score most.
You already know English. That isn't the problem.
Most people who want better spoken English don't need more vocabulary. They know the words. What happens is a pause before the main point, a sentence restarted twice, a translation running in the background. None of that shows up in a grammar test, which is why grammar tests keep telling people they're fine while speaking still feels hard. This test looks at the speech itself: where you hesitated, how you organised the answer, how fast you actually spoke.
Frequently asked questions
Is the speaking test really free?
Yes. You speak for 60 seconds and get your Luwy Score, your breakdown and your biggest improvement opportunity without creating an account or entering a card. Creating a free account lets you save your history and practise again to see whether your score moves.
How is my Luwy Score calculated?
Your speech is transcribed in your browser and assessed on four things: fluency, grammar, vocabulary and structure. Word count, filler words and speaking rate are counted directly from your transcript rather than estimated, and they're shown to you separately from the AI's interpretation. The result is a 0-100 score and an A-F grade. It is an indicative coaching score, not an official or certified measure of language ability.
Do you record or keep my voice?
No. Speech recognition runs in your browser, and only the resulting text is sent for scoring. The transcript is used to generate your feedback and is not saved to any account or database on this page. Your microphone is only active during the 60 seconds you are speaking, and you start it yourself.
What if the microphone doesn't work on my device?
You can type your answer instead and still get scored. Live speech recognition works best in Chrome and Edge. Safari supports it with variable results, and Firefox depends on your settings. The typing fallback is always available.
Why does the topic appear with no warning?
Because that is the skill being tested. Most people can speak well about something they rehearsed. Real interviews, oral exams and meetings give you no warning, so the test doesn't either.
Is this useful if my grammar is already good?
Often especially so. A common pattern is knowing the language well on paper but hesitating, restarting sentences and translating mentally while speaking. Those show up in fluency and structure rather than grammar, and they're what the score is designed to surface.
